American Assembled Pursuit Pro Hunter Punches Above Its Price Tag
Jack Mason makes very nice watches, but the Pursuit Pro Hunter, with its bold green dial, really stood out to me when I was browsing their latest lineup. It’s a field watch built for people who need a timepiece that holds up under difficult conditions. Sure, no one is going to mistake it for a dress watch or a GMT because it screams outdoor sports — it’s made for climbers, hikers, hunters, and backcountry campers. If you’re heading into the wilderness, you need a watch like this on your wrist.
At $1,399, the Pursuit Pro Hunter runs on a La Joux Perret G101 Swiss automatic movement. La Joux Perret makes movements for several brands in this price range, including Farer and Furlan Marri. Jack Mason regulates each watch in-house to an astounding +/-5 seconds per day. The power reserve is a fantastic 68 hours, which means you can wear a different watch for nearly three days and come back to the Pursuit Pro Hunter that’s still running and on time.
The case measures 12.5mm thick and spans 47mm lug-to-lug. That’s a large footprint, but it wears well, especially on thicker wrists.
The case is 316L stainless steel with a scratch-resistant hardness coating that Jack Mason claims is over 500% more resistant to scratches than untreated 316L. The crystal is sapphire, which you’d expect at this price, and the crown is screw-down with water resistance to 200 meters.
A standout feature for trail use is the 120-click bi-directional ceramic bezel with a countdown configuration. Align it with the minute hand when you start your hike, and you’ll always know how much time has passed and how much time you have left.
The dial and bezel also use Swiss Super-LumiNova Grade X2. If you plan on being outside after sunset or before sunrise, you’ll appreciate how easy it is to read the time at a glance.
The watch ships on a 20mm nylon hook-and-loop strap with a quick-release system. It’s the right choice for a field watch since you won’t be fumbling with buckle holes when your hands are cold or wet.
Now, you might be wondering how much of this watch is actually American-made. The honest answer is: not much. The movement is Swiss, and the components are sourced overseas. But Jack Mason designs, assembles, tests, services, and repairs every watch in the United States. That puts them squarely in Tier 4 on our tier model: US assembly with imported components.
